Himalayan Salt

Himalayan Salt

Salt is one of the first ingredients we learn to use when we are little. My little nieces made their way to the kitchen this way by learning to sprinkle salt on foods. We have been informed that table salt is iodized and is probably the best salt available out there. Here I am going to differ with the opinion and introduce you to Himalayan Pink Salt. In India, it is mostly used to prepare light meals that are consumed during fasting.

Pink salt is called ‘sendha namak’ in India and comes in powdered as well as crystal form. It comes from a salt mountain in Pakistan and is mostly of very light pink color. There are few other sources of Pink Salt on earth but the one s Pakistan is the biggest one. This mountain is actually made up of ancient sea deposits.

Himalyan salt can be used as a replacement for common salt and also has many other uses that promote good health. Compared to sea salt or common table salt as we call it, pink salt has higher mineral content (It contains total of 84 minerals) and is lot more pure. It has the properties that relax the body and also remove toxins. It stimulates blood circulation but lowers blood pressure. Because of this, patients suffering from high blood pressure are advised to switch to Himalayan salt. It is used in spas for aromatherapy, in bath salts, body scrubs etc to relax and heal the body holistically.

Other benefits of Himalayan salt consumption include better pH balance, better absorption of essential nutrients from food and is used as a remedy for skin rashes, fever, flu, psoriasis, herpes and arthritis. Even today, the salt crystals are hand-mined, hand-crushed and sun dried before shipping. Consumption of Himalayan salt brine aids in getting rid of toxins from the body and several other ailments. Taking steam with Himalayan salt also helps in respiratory problems, ear infections, sinus etc. For arthritis, dip a towel in warm Himalayan salt brine and place it on the affected areas.
